Day One - Starting of with something simple...

.... and practical in this chilly weather.  This snood has been made using vintage deadstock grey wool fabric from the 1950s which I was very kindly given a bolt of.  It is a stunning fabric and I love the outcome.......

I basically doubled over the fabric, stitched it together then joined each end together to make one long loop of fabric.  Finally, I twisted it round my neck twice.

Cost to me = free.

Only a few days to go......

till I am not allowed to spend any money on the high street or in any other commercial clothing or accessory shop!  Boy, I am starting to wonder why I have committed myself to this.  I am a proper shop-a-holic!!

I just wanted to give you all a bit of background about myself before I go head-strong into this challenge.  I am clinging onto my 30's and have spent many a year keeping up with the current trends.  I can't even begin to talk about the '80s - way to fashion-tastically painful!!  I love clothes, style and interiors.

My background is in advertising and PR and I have been writing blogs for years now.  This is the first time that I am putting myself in the forefront of the blog, and not hiding behind it.  I draw, craft and up-cycle as much as time allows, so this will be a challenge that I am going to look forward to as I will have to make the time to do these things that I love doing!  I also love to read.

I love vintage style, especially from the '50s and am embracing the '70s just now as my myself, my husband and family have fairly recently bought our 1970's home .  I am going to enjoy furnishing it, and decorating it without breaking the bank!

I hope that you will follow my progress here on this blog, and join me on Facebook and Twitter.

Roll on the 30th.....

Sustainable Style for a Whole Year!

I am about to embark on something new.... from 30 December 2010 I am going to go for a full year of wearing only sustainable clothing and jewellery and decorating my home with sustainable accessories.

I am only going to buy second-hand and vintage and will up-cycle as I go to challenge myself to be stylish sustainably!! I will post my efforts here......

I accept the challenge gracefully (and stylishly!) - bring it on!!

Clutch Bags

Now I love to carry a clutch.  Especially at this time of year when the party clothes are on and there are generally more events to attend.  Net-A-Porter has a lovely range of clutches and here are a few of my favourites.

 Alexander McQueen - £895
Marc Jacobs - £885
Jimmy Choo - £1,295

All of which are available here

Color Splash

I have just found a great new and FREE app for the iPhone.  I have been playing about with it this morning and it is great fun.  It is called Color Splash.

You can make images b&W and highlight some things in colour.  Really cool and arty!

Look at what you can do......

These pictures are courtesy of Photobucket

Will post some of my own pictures once I have mastered the technique - which is super easy!!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow.......

Well this week in Edinburgh has been different!  It is super early for snow and it has snowed everyday for the last 7 days - love it!  Have been sledging, snowman and snow-bunny (!) making and having snowball fights - it really does bring the child out in you!

Now to a more serious point - before the snow fell I wasn't organised enough to have bought my winter boots for this year, and since in the past week my feet have been adorned with wellies, uggs and hiking boots I feel that it is now about time to get the stylish ones on!

Here are a few that I have my beady wee eye on......

All three of the above are from Anthropologie - click here

These two are from Urban Outfitters - click here

And the final three are from Zara - click here

Lots of lovely boot eye candy!  Now the next thing is to decide which ones to buy?!  Happy shopping.....

Yokoo

Now this lady I have been watching from afar for a while and have seen her Etsy shop and her profile grow from strength to strength, not only within the Etsy community but in the online world.

She is a one woman business and crochets for about 15 hours a day.  What she produces is outstanding and is a true testiment to her dedication to her company and her flare for style.

Check out her Etsy shop - I promise you won't be disappointed - click here.

And scroll down to get a look at just some of her amazing and super cosy creations.....

Just perfect for this time of year.  How about treating yourself, you know you can't resist?
