My Monday Muse

My Monday muse this week is Alexa Chug.  Not only is she gorgeous and stylish, she also seems like a really lovely girl - someone you can imagine being friends with.

I certainly would like a peek in her closet.

Blowing away the cobwebs......

There is nothing better for blowing away the cobwebs that a good old stomp up a Scottish hill with some friends and 7 kids!!

Although it feels quite spring-like, Edinburgh is still cold but marching up Arthur's seat is a great way to keep warm.  I love it when you are totally warm all over and it is just your face that feels the cold!

Perfect way to spend a Sunday...

Her simple style and elegance is something that I want to achieve.  Maybe not on my budget, but I will try!

Gremlins in my camera

I downloaded my i-phone pics to my mac yesterday and it always amazes me when you find pictures that you didn't take, or can't remember taking!!  In this one I don't even know who owns those feet, or where it was taken - absolutely no idea!!

I have come to the conclusion that my i-phone is haunted, or perhaps more realistically one of my kids may have had their little hands on it!!

Phew - all fixed and brand new!!

Look at what happened to my poor i-phone - disaster!  It actually brought a tear to my eye.  As soon as it fell I could see the glass shattering and cracking like ice!

Well there was nothing better to do than take it to a shop which I discovered that will fix it within the hour. Couldn't bear to be without my phone for any longer than that!  So my son and I went to a lovely Italian coffee house in the Grassmarket to wait and sipped coffee and hot chocolate whilst eating rocky road and caramel shortcake - yum!!

and, just an hour later - voila!!

All new and beautiful again......

Mental note:  I must go and buy myself a cover for it so it doesn't happen again.

Sunny Cyprus Shoot

I am just back from working on a shoot in Cyprus and boy is it lovely to be in a country where the sun shines for 340 days of the year.  Scotland is freezing and very wet today so am missing having some sun on my bones.

The shoot I was involved in had 7 gorgeous Cypriot models in it, and I have come home feeling old, fat and ugly!! ;-)  They were stunning models and am sure the actual shots will be brilliant.  We get them back from the photographer on Friday but I just wanted to share some of my behind the scenes shots with you.

I have been out to Cyprus a few times now but saw some really lovely parts of it this time, along with some gorgeous sunsets.  The long days (6am - 2am one day) were worth it.

Re-wearing my own wardrobe

I was having a scout around my wardrobe last night and I was shocked at the amount of stuff I saw that I literally haven't worn for years.  Over the past couple of years I have been very safe with my style.  I have spent the past three years doing the school run and for that my uniform is jeans and a jacket (doesn't matter what I wear on top as no-one ever see it!) - then, occasionally vamping it up with a hat and/or a scarf!!

Now I have taken a vow to wear something each day this week that I haven't had on my back since, well I don't know when!!

So today, for starters, I pulled out this blouse.  Now I still absolutely love this blouse, I love the collar, I love the cuffs and I love the colour!  What I don't like is the quality, it started falling apart the day that I first wore it.  The poppers down the front have mostly disappeared and when I put it on today I have had to hold it together with three safety pins.  Never mind, no-one noticed the pins, and I have felt good today wearing it!  That is the important part.

I teamed it up with some straight leg black trousers and put a short sleeved black tunic over the top of the blouse, mainly to cover the lack of poppers, and to save my modesty!

I took these photos using my mini tripod so please excuse the quality - my husband wasn't around to take the pics!

More goodies from my attic....

Well the real reason I went into my attic yesterday was to bring down a coffee set which was given to me when my great aunt died many years ago (in the 1980s).  I have brought it with me through four house moves over the years and it has always remained wrapped in newspaper in a box.

I knew that the handle of the coffee pot was broken and wanted to look at it to see if it could be repaired - I think that it possibly could be (not by me) but will need a bit of work.  Luckily all the pieces are still there.

It is such a pretty set.  I took each individual piece out of its newspaper wrapping (which was dated 1980) and had a good look at it, took some photos and then carefully wrapped it back up again and put it back into it's box.

This is something that I want to keep special and don't want to risk my kids accidently knocking over.  So for now, it is back in the attic until I can display it properly at a later date.

Treasure in my attic......

I went into our attic today for something and saw in the very far back corner a box which I did not recognise.  We have lived in this house for three years now and I have never noticed this box before.  It was left by previous owners and was left in a corner beside some old broken furniture that they left behind.  I took the box downstairs and to my joy, it was full of old bone china tea sets and some glasses.

This is a peek inside the box before I fully opened it.  I took everything out and laid it on my kitchen table.

This is a peek at some of the lovely glasses that were there.  Look at all of the lovely colours of the glass.

This pale green set is stunning.  It has six cups and saucers, six side plates, a serving plate, sugar bowl and milk jug.  It is in perfect condition and now has pride of place on my shelving unit in my kitchen just waiting for some girl friends to come round and try them out!

This blue set is also lovely - it is a full set, minus two of the cups.

There are also some single sets which I also love.

This pale green set has stunning floral detail.

There was only one casualty which was amazing given they have all probably sat inside that box for many years.

I am just delighted.  I have been looking for a china tea set for a while now and had not one, but two full sets in my attic all along........what a treat.
